Historically the renovation market has always proved to be very robust and the current Covid crisis has proved to be the same. During the Global Financial Crisis (GFC), the new home building and commercial construction markets fell by 40% to 50% around the world. These markets are closely tied to overall economic activity.

The renovation market, however, is driven by much longer-term trends such as urban drift, increasing population density, escalating land prices and long-term increases in property value. In the GFC, renovation activity saw only a single digit decline in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and USA.
